A proposed 20mph zone near St Marychurch CofE Primary and Nursery School is open for public comment.
Torbay Council is consulting on six new school zones, including Hartop Road and Petitor Road west of the A379 St Marychurch Road.
What is proposed?
If introduced, the mandatory 20mph zone would operate all the time—not just at school arrival and collection times—and could be enforced by police. This is a consultation proposal, not an announcement that the new limit is already in force.
The council says the proposals aim to improve safety where pedestrians and vehicles come into conflict, including on nearby roads used by schoolchildren.

The consultation runs from 1 September until midnight on Wednesday 30 September 2026. Residents can indicate support or opposition and leave a comment.
