St Marychurch is properly moving into autumn this week. The annual Autumn Fair brings the Parish Hall to life on Saturday, Torquay United have an FA Cup afternoon to look forward to, the Halloween Trail is starting to take shape, and the precinct has plenty of fresh reasons to call in.
Autumn Fair at St Mary the Virgin
Saturday 17 October, 11am–3pm, Parish Hall.
This is the sort of proper village afternoon worth making time for: a chance to browse, have a chat and pick up something a little different, all while supporting the parish. There will be stalls to explore, a prize draw and lucky dip, plus crafts, jewellery, pottery and candles. Teas, coffees and homemade cakes will be available too — ideal for anyone popping in for half an hour or settling in for a catch-up.
Entry and parking are free. Parking will be signposted from the church entrance, with signs directing visitors to the car park at Brunel Health Centre. Whether you are looking for a gift, a treat, or simply a friendly Saturday stop, this is a lovely way to start the weekend in St Marychurch.
A big Saturday for Torquay United
Torquay United welcome Oxford City to Plainmoor at 3pm in the Emirates FA Cup fourth qualifying round. It is a proper chance for the club to take a step towards the First Round Proper — a stage supporters have been hoping to reach again.
Please check Torquay United directly for final match and ticket information before travelling.
Fresh reasons to call into the precinct
Big Bakes Bakery has fresh treats in the counter, including carrot-cake blondies and apple-crumble cookie sandwiches, alongside bagels from 9am–3pm.
The Bay Tree Café has brought in its new menu.
Willow & Ro Jewellery Bar, based at House of Laser, has a small number of Saturday permanent-jewellery appointments still available at the time of writing.
Witch Bobbins has completed its Halloween Trail window — one more reason to wander through Foxlands Walk as the trail approaches.
South Devon Tattoo has welcomed new apprentice Rick to the studio.
Lloyd Maunder is taking bespoke Christmas-hamper enquiries for those getting ahead with festive food shopping.
Looking ahead: Halloween and half term
The St Marychurch Halloween Trail runs Monday 26–Saturday 31 October, with £1 trail packs from The Falcones, Animals in Distress and Torbay Scrapstore. The fancy-dress prize-giving will be at Molloy’s from 4pm on Saturday 31 October.
There is more coming up too: Poppins Pottery’s children’s Halloween sessions, Frightlights at Babbacombe Model Village, and Babbacombe Corinthian Sailing Club’s Afternoon Tea and Wonky Donkeys sea-shanty fundraiser on Saturday 24 October.
