St Marychurch welcomed a new addition to the village last night as the South Devon Pottery Museum opened its doors.
I dropped in briefly and it was a lovely evening. The displays looked fantastic, with cases full of local pottery to explore, and there was a real sense of occasion in the room. A good number of local people came along, the Mayor was there, and guests enjoyed a buffet and live entertainment during the opening.
The museum is the work of local collector Carl Filby and celebrates the pottery heritage of South Devon, including the story of Watcombe Pottery and other local makers. It is a welcome new heritage attraction for St Marychurch and a reason for residents and visitors alike to have a look around this part of the village.
The museum is at 51B St Margaret’s Road, St Marychurch. Admission is £5; current opening hours and further information are available on the South Devon Pottery Museum website.
